Why can't Hip Hop grow up?

We are in the year 2010 (basically) and outside of a very few acts like Jay-Z and Nas, Hip Hop has this problem with growing up and being law abiding adults. I dont mind rappers still rapping when they reach over the age of 30, but the maturity factor is a problem that a lot of people have.

I mean, I dont know if anyone can vouch for this, but I see a lot of these 30+ MCs still stuck on that childhood minstate that they had on their heyday back in the 90s. From Onyx to the LOX to some members of the Wu Tang, its like they feel that they can re-live the old days and "take it back" the atmosphere and the feeling. Their content is still the same (outside of a few sprinkled introspective tracks) and it is turning more and more people off cause they are growing up, finishing school, having careers, money, families of their own and here are their favorite rappers, still on the same immature sh!t that they grew out of years ago.

It also harms the growth of the music as well. How come I see R&B singers and rock stars talking about real life stuff that their fan can connect to as they get older, but rappers in general still gotta talk about the streets and not talk about the consequences like a human being?

Now, we even get a lot of semi-oldhead rappers like Fabolous, Camron, Gucci, and Jeezy (at times) still chasing the young ass trends and its quickly being the norm for rappers their age thinking its OK not to grow. At some point, the fitted hats, the trned hopping, the gun talk, and the smoking blunts have to be put down.

All Im saying is that, time flies and if we dont demand rappers to grow and be human on records we gonna see a lot of middle aged to elderly people with grey hair and ailing health still making an ass of themselves, and anyone that listens to Hip Hop.

what i've learned about myself (random rant)

It’s crazy how you can find something new about yourself every day. Lately I’ve been thinking about what I I have really learned about myself. This is what I discovered (all off the top of my head, pardon my randomness):

My laptop, blackberry, itouch, mini notbook, wireless signal and coffee / jamba juice and a studio nearby is all I really need = fuck a office

I have a problem trusting people because of everything I’ve been through as a child

I dumb myself down at times so people can relate… I’m done with that

There’s only about 4 people (including myself) that I 100 percent trust

To go with the trust issue, if someone has my trust and for whatever reason they lose it, there is a 99 percent chance they won’t get it back (won’t say 100 percent because anything is possible)

I’m scared of what the future holds

Some of the best people I ever met wasn’t in a class room, or a board room, or a job. It was off craigslist… still friends with many of them till this day

I had an obsession with living in LA since I was about 10 but at the same time my heart is in New York and I don’t know if I could ever fully leave

Music keeps me sane

I met with millionaires and moguls that can buy me 4 times over . The common theme? Their kids are the most important things to them. The wives? Not so much… these are people I strived to be as child growing up, now that I’m grown and actually know them I don’t want to be like them, mainly for that fact

I wish I was still naïve about the music the music industry, after being in it for so long it was so much better from the outside

I have a DANGEROUS love affair with this music industry, and I’ll be damn if she leaves me

I live life like sports. To further explain sports are the only time in life where you either win or lose with no in between. So I judge myself everyday as a win or a lose ( today being day 169 (126 wins 43 Loses)

Not to sound conceded but I KNOW I’m better than 90 percent of these producers and a&rs and I feel like l run my label a hell of a lot better

I hate the fact I have such a sour relationship with my (immediate)family especially my mother, but I’ve come to terms with it and understand that they will never change and they will only bring me down with them. For me to survive I had to emotionally disconnect from them. I don’t plan on reconnecting… at least I tried

Keeping on with the family thing I hate that my family isn't close. Its honestly feels like they forgot about us.

I have a list of everything I want for 2010, and I will get all of it… or die trying

I've owned a business longer than I've ever had a job. So it pisses me off when people say things like "Show this to so and so, I bet you'll get a promotion / raise / whatever

I hate what drugs did to my family, childhood and life from both perspectives, users and dealers either way they’re both addicted

I really really REALLY hate clubs

The high school version would so kick the 2009 version of myself ass and I sometimes wonder if it’s because I’ve grown up

I drop people out of my life faster than I can blink… and never think twice about it

There is many aspect of myself that I like keep private, and I like that, I feel everyone should have
something that’s is theirs and theirs alone

I still have a jay –z dead presidents cassette single still unopen in its plastic wrapper with the 5.99 price tag on it… really what the fuck..

I have a damn near full bar… I hate drinking… again what the fuck?

I really have a bad addiction to shoes and sneakers

Growing up I had a issue being a mix child, I wasn’t Spanish enough for Spanish people wasn’t black enough for black people but now that ive grown up I realized that everyone’s is screwed up so its ok :)

I’m happier now than I’ve ever been and I like this feeling

Meryl Carter is riding high with the success of her hit single “Your Loving” Feat Vybz Kartel . “Your Loving” is currently garnering major airplay throughout the Carribean and the United States. Ms Carter most recently performed alongside Jive Recording artist Lee Carr at Power 105.1 DJ Noire’s Riddim Driven Clothing line release party.

Vocalist will sing 1 song acapalla

Step 2 - vocalist will be asked to learn Artist Material and practice
with Meryl Carter for 3 weeks (unpaid)

Step 3 - after vocalists are chosen vocalist will practice for 5
weeks (paid) in preparation for shows.

Auditions will be held at UltraSound Dance Studios
251 w 30th Street 7th Floor
On Saturday, Oct 3rd 2009 at 3pm Sharp

Please bring if you have head-shots, Resume.

Performance experience preferred but not required.

Its hard to let go... As many people know I was a former a&r for universal for some time and I loved that position. It was a remarkable time in my life. I have since moved on to bigger and better things, but as I look on what these labels are doing it makes me wonder wtf?? Sorry if this is just a rant post but really wtf? I look at these companies that are failing these new artist and essentially the consumer by doing these same tired tactics. I honestly feel that I could help these new artist with new innovative marketing strategies that would really reach their target market, and definitely come out with better music... You labels are doing a injustice to these newcomers... Like Ice Cube told me... Thank God I'm indie. And its true even though I love my past, I'm glad I moved to a indie level. More money in it anyway

I just got back from vacation and I feel RE-junvenated ( I was junvenated before, lost it and got junvenated again...rejunvenated!)

I had gone overseas via Royal Caribbean Adventure of the Sea. This vacation was a surprise to many since I am afraid of water ( I don't swim, don't float, just straight sick and drown to my death...)

This was my theme song for my vacation

but I can't lie this was the most fun vacation of my life. the ship was beautiful had plenty to do: Ice-skating rink, Rock-climbing, In-line skating, casino (big up to the casino, ya paid my liqueur bill!), golf simulator, mini golf etc... staff was excellent (shout out to my 2 waiters richie and will) food was great... i can keep going on and on

pictures and stories of my drunken mess will come shortly im still going through alot of videos etc because i don't remeber much (a sign of a really good time) new fact about myself : IM A VERY HAPPY DRUNK LOL , shout out to senor frogs in aruba!

IF I CAN, WHY CAN'T YOU?

The reason for me writing this blog, is because of a recent conversation that I had with a very good friend. During the conversation he kept stating how bad his luck was and "he wishes he was as blessed and rich as I was". That comment really got me upset. First and foremost, contrary to many beliefs (that includes you didda) I am NOT rich... I'm far from it (im not broke either don't get it twisted) and I have been far from blessed. Everything I have gotten I have hustled for. I admit life is very good for me at the moment but that's only because i never lost desire, I NEVER LOST FOCUS TO GET OUT OF MY PERSONAL HELL... i never lost the hunger for more. I constantly am searching for ways to better my life. If i can do it why can't you?

getting rich is not something that only a few fortunate people are destined to be. there is a difference between those people and people like us. no, its not that they all had great ideas or inventions (I'm sure we all do as well) but the difference is that they decided to NOT CARE WHAT ANYONE THINKS AND GO FOR IT!

I know it sounds very cliche, but thats the truth. if you WANT to be rich, you need to go out and do it. its that simple...you have an idea for a clothing line, movie script, invention etc... well what are u waiting for? stop procrastinating and do it.

the worst thing that can ever happen to us in life is to fall into the "trap of society" as I like to call it and settle at some 9-5 job for the rest of your life. anybody who has made money has one thing in common, they broke away from society's standards and took their own risks. Taking risks is the key to getting money. the reason you see that 38 year old guy working in a supermarket is because he never had the desire or will power to get rich. Its not because he didn't have an amazing idea or concept - he probably did, but he was probably scared to actually bring it to fruition... This is the ONLY difference, between those who made money and those who haven't yet. its THAT simple

What is on your bucket list?

As many people know about me, most of my life has been devoted to the music industry. Since I was 13 years old I have been in some capacity in the music industry. From hosting music based shows on public access ( you be surprised of the names I interviewed before they became famous) from interning to Universal Motown doing PR and then being hired as A&R at Universal Motown, to starting my own label (The Nu Breed Music Group) and PR company (NBM Publicity). My life literally has been the music industry and nothing else. with the upcoming year approaching and I reflect back on this year ( a bad one at that, almost lost my life due to a irresponsible drunk driver) and it really put alot into prospective. so often we get caught up in the details of life and forget to live our lives.

so with all that stated, I watched the bucket list and thats how this whole notion came about.
( in case you don't know : via wikipedia The Bucket List is a 2007 comedy-drama film starring Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman. The story follows two terminally ill men on a road trip with a wish list of things to do before they "kick the bucket.") Here is my bucket list ( in no particular order) , and before the chance withers away im stating it now.

1) travel around the world (currently trying to find a way on this 131 day excursion to see the world)
2) climb a pyramid in Egypt
3) start a charity foundation ( The Nu Breed cares for the New Breed, a charity organization to care for underprivileged youth)
4) finishing writing my book
5) really get to know my fathers side of the family
6) Help the love of my life ( I wont put her business out there)
7) Learn to fly a plane
8) LEARN TO SWIM! (I cant tell you how afraid I am of that)
9) Get married, have kids, tell my grandkids how me and their grandmother met
10) witness first hand the northern lights
11) go to a superbowl (cowboys has to be in it)

so with all that stated, I tell everyone that reads my blog, to seize the day! you never know when it might be your last... whats on your bucket list???

I refuse to believe gay is the new straight (but according to pop culture recently i'm wrong ?!?) First was the extra tight jeans (when me and my girl have a problem deciphering if a pair of jeans is for me or her there is a problem) Then its the Louie Vuittion scarf head band set. (that seemingly every rapper has now, which even I admit caught me off guard when I went to purchase one in the LV store only to find out from the clerk that the set is only available for women)

Then the whole man bag debate came into effect

( a purse is a purse no way around that I don't care what people say)
